Description

:icongravefall:

Name:
Eleanor "Nell" Rose
Age: 22
Job and Income: Researcher, low income.
Affiliation: Gravefall- God's Hand
Abilities: The ability to replace herself with future versions of herself.

Personality:
Nell is unusually quiet, with a baleful stare and closed-off, awkward body language. It's difficult to get a visible reaction from her, but it's not that she doesn't feel emotions; she simply represses them for the most part, not knowing how to properly express herself.

Nell keenly feels she is an outsider and is always trying to figure out the unspoken rules of any given circumstance by hanging back and observing other people. She is always wondering what the "right" thing to do is, genuinely believing that one right answer not only exists, but that it's the key to success. If you follow the rules and do everything right, then you're "good" and everything will be okay. However, she's not passive or shy. If she has something to share, she'll speak up. If she believes her method is better, she will act independently if she has to. She's single-minded and endlessly patient when she really wants something... even if the fear of making a mistake more often holds her back. She takes failure very hard.

Secretly, she has an almost childlike desire for approval and grows attached to people quickly without realizing it. She's about the least judgmental person someone can meet, idealistic and curious. Although she's afraid of truly connecting with others, she can't help but to reach out in her quest for understanding.

Background:
Nell was seven years old when her mother, a brilliant biochem researcher, died. In the midst of the chaos of a chemical bomb dropping, they were trapped for several nightmarish hours awaiting emergency aid that came too late. "Be good" were her last words to Nell.

From delayed treatment Nell incurred massive scarring in her throat and lungs and permanent damage to her eyes that left her very fragile, a burden in her aunt's eyes. She was not a warm person nor one suited to caring for children, but took Nell in out of a duty to her older sister and saw that the money she'd left behind went to her care and education. Nell was kept in a carefully sanitized environment, visited only by tutors and a caretaker who visited long enough to prepare meals and clean the house. That's how she lived for the next nine years, occupying herself with whatever was around to distract herself from her pain - first her mother's collection of books and, when that grew tiresome, the internet. By the time Nell was healed enough to return to life outside the walls of their home, she no longer wanted to. She was content with the safety of isolation and the comfort of the computer screen as a buffer between her and the rest of humanity. Her aunt was still indifferent to her, and each dinner and evening spent in cold silence left her deeply hurt in ways she couldn't express. Being told she was useless hurt the most - that hadn't been what her mother wanted for her. She was smart. She was supposed to use that to help people... right?

At sixteen she left the house and miraculously found a job - a simple part time filing and data entry postion. After a rocky start and some very awkward interactions, she settled in and a year later was promoted to researcher. In her spare time Nell studies anything and everything, because that's all she knows how to do. In an ideal world she'd attend university and study biochemistry to one day work alongside her aunt, but she knows it's a dream. She'd like to do something important in the service of humanity someday, but for now she's busy learning how to be a person.

Extra:
  • She introduces herself as Nell, never Eleanor. It's her "grown-up" nickname she came up with to help people take her seriously. (Previously, everyone called her Duckie, her childhood nickname.)
  • Wears the visor to keep dust out of her eyes, but she'll tear up at random moments anyway.
  • Has a weakness for cute things. Her room is full of plushies.
  • Terrified of enclosed spaces... except for her room.
